The first Japanese division, some 18,000 men in about 700 ships, reached Busan on the 13th of the fourth month. At dawn the next day, leading with their muskets, they surrounded the fortress; Jeong Bal fought on with soldiers and townspeople, but it fell within half a day. He is said to have fought in black and been remembered as the "Black-Robed General". The next day the Japanese marched on Dongnae.
