King U

Thirty-second king of Goryeo, who ordered the Liaodong expedition and was deposed after the Wihwado retreat

A son of Gongmin, he was enthroned by Yi In-im and others after his father's assassination. Japanese pirate raids grew severe in his reign, bringing Choe Yeong's victory at Hongsan, Choe Mu-seon's at Jinpo, Yi Seong-gye's at Hwangsan and Jeong Ji's at Gwaneumpo, and the Hwatong Dogam was founded in 1377. In 1388, when Ming planned the Cheollyeong Commandery, he and Choe Yeong launched the Liaodong expedition, but he was deposed after the Wihwado Retreat. Yi Seong-gye's faction claimed he was Sin Don's son.
