Kim Jeong-hui (Chusa)

Epigrapher and calligrapher who created the Chusa style, identified the Bukhansan stele as King Jinheung’s, and painted Sehando in exile on Jeju

A Northern Learning scholar taught by Park Je-ga, he went to Qing and studied evidential learning with scholars such as Weng Fanggang and Ruan Yuan. In the Geumseok gwaannok he identified the Bukhansan and Hwangchoryeong steles as monuments of King Jinheung's tours. He was exiled to Jeju in 1840, and around then painted Sehando for his disciple Yi Sang-jeok.
