Wang Geon Takes Naju

Gung Ye’s general Wang Geon led a fleet to seize Geumseong and some ten other districts behind Later Baekje’s lines, renaming Geumseong as Naju.

From a Songak seafaring family, Wang Geon sailed down the west coast and took the southwest coast at Later Baekje’s back. Naju let him squeeze Later Baekje from two sides and control the southwestern sea lanes. He married the daughter of the local magnate O Da-ryeon (Queen Janghwa), mother of the future King Hyejong of Goryeo.
