Heukchi Sangji

Baekje general who led restoration forces at Imjon Fortress before surrendering to Tang

He was a Baekje official of dalsol rank and governor of Pungdal county. After Baekje fell in 660 he gathered a restoration army at Imjon Fortress and recovered some two hundred fortresses. When the movement’s leaders turned on each other, he surrendered to Tang in 663 and then led Tang troops to take Imjon Fortress. He later won fame as a Tang general against the Türks and Tibet, but was falsely accused and died in prison.
