Sengoku daimyo of Suruga, Tōtōmi and Mikawa who invaded Owari with a large army in 1560 and was killed in Oda Nobunaga’s surprise attack at Okehazama

Son of Imagawa Ujichika, governor of Suruga, he had become a monk but won the succession struggle (the Hanakura Disturbance) when his elder brothers died in 1536. Guided by the monk Taigen Sessai, he allied with the Takeda and Hōjō and took Mikawa, earning the name “the foremost archer of the Tōkaidō”. He added to the Imagawa house law (Imagawa Kana Mokuroku). Advancing into Owari in 1560, he was killed in Oda Nobunaga’s attack at Okehazama.
