King Sosurim

Seventeenth king of Goguryeo, who adopted Buddhism, founded the Taehak and issued a law code

He came to the throne in the crisis after King Gogugwon was killed fighting Baekje, and rebuilt the state. When the monk Sundo brought Buddhist images and scriptures from Former Qin in 372, he accepted Buddhism to unite people’s beliefs, and the same year founded the Taehak, a state academy teaching the Confucian classics and history. In 373 he promulgated a law code. These reforms laid the foundation for Goguryeo’s height under Gwanggaeto and Jangsu.
