Sin Dol-seok

Commoner righteous army leader who rose at Yeonghae in 1906 and fought in the eastern mountains, called the "Tiger of Taebaeksan"

A commoner from Yeonghae in North Gyeongsang, he raised a righteous army there in 1906 and waged guerrilla war along the east coast at Yeongdeok, Uljin and Samcheok and in the Ilwolsan and Taebaeksan mountains. The rise of commoner commanders showed the righteous armies spreading beyond the yangban scholars to other classes. He is said to have been left out of the Thirteen-Province Righteous Army's leadership because he was a commoner. In 1908 he was murdered by former followers seeking the bounty on him.
