Park Jeong-yang

Member of the 1881 inspection mission to Japan and first minister to the US; attended the 1898 joint assembly as acting prime minister

In 1881 he toured Japan's government offices and industrial facilities as a member of the inspection mission. In 1887 he went to Washington as Korea's first minister to the United States, but because he ignored the restrictions Qing tried to impose on Korean envoys, Qing pressure forced his recall the following year. He served in the cabinet during the Gabo Reform, and in 1898 attended the Joint Assembly of Officials and People on behalf of the government and accepted the Six Articles.
