Dae In-seon

Last king of Balhae, who surrendered to the Khitan in 926

With Balhae weakened by quarrels among its nobles, Yelü Abaoji, who had united the Khitan, invaded at the end of 925 and took Buyeo Prefecture. When the capital, Holhan Fortress at Sanggyeong, was besieged in the first month of 926, the king could not hold out and surrendered. The Khitan set up the Dongdan kingdom on Balhae’s land. Balhae refugees fought to restore their state, and in 934 Crown Prince Dae Gwang-hyeon led tens of thousands of people to Goryeo.
