On 27 April 2018 the third inter-Korean summit was held at the Peace House on the southern side of Panmunjom. The two leaders issued the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula, confirming the goal of a nuclear-free peninsula through complete denuclearization and agreeing to pursue a declaration ending the war within the year and to open a joint liaison office in Kaesong.

The first North Korea–US summit followed in Singapore in June, and the September Pyongyang summit produced the September 19 Pyongyang Joint Declaration.
