Battle of Busanpo

Yi Sun-sin attacked the Japanese base at Busan and destroyed some 100 ships at anchor. Jeong Un, commander of Nokdo, was killed.

After Hansando, Yi Sun-sin, with Yi Eok-gi and Won Gyun, led 74 panokseon and 92 smaller ships against Busan, the Japanese base. On the first of the ninth month they destroyed about 100 of the 470 or more ships lining the harbour. The Japanese abandoned their ships and fired from the hills; Jeong Un, leading the van, was killed.

With no troops to land, Busan could not be retaken, but the Japanese were afterwards reluctant to put to sea. Yi counted it the greatest victory of his four sorties.
