Twenty-five nations took part from 11 to 19 February. These were the first Winter Games held in a different country from the Summer Games (Amsterdam). Sudden warm weather forced the cancellation of the 10,000 m speed skating, and the weather troubled the Games throughout. Norway’s Sonja Henie won the women’s figure skating at 15, and skeleton was contested for the first time on St. Moritz’s famous Cresta Run.
