Manbugyo Bridge Incident

When the Khitan sent fifty camels, King Taejo exiled their envoys to an island as emissaries of the state that had destroyed Balhae, and left the camels to starve under Manbu Bridge.

After destroying Balhae in 926 the Khitan sought ties with Goryeo. Taejo called them a lawless state that had broken faith with Balhae and banished the thirty envoys — a sign of Goryeo’s northern policy and hard line that foreshadowed the Khitan invasions.
